The precision of a pipe organ keyboard

Reproducing the experience of a pipe organ faithfully is not just a matter of sound — it is a matter of contact, resistance, what the fingers perceive before a single note is played. That is precisely what Viscount addresses with the AWK, the Advanced Wooden Keyboard.

The keyboard was developed in cooperation with Luca Panetti, whose research focuses on the physical behaviour, design and construction of organ keyboards. The result is a system in which the force required to depress a key is reproduced by two carefully calibrated magnets, adjusted to simulate the resistance of opening an air valve on a real pipe organ.

The choice of wood is not merely aesthetic. It determines the tactile feel, mechanical precision and long-term durability of the instrument. Viscount manufactures the entire keyboard in-house using specialized machines that ensure rigorous manufacturing precision across every single component.

Come and try out this technology in our shop at Route d'Arruffens 1, 1680 Romont!
